Daniel Teklehaimanot

Hailing from Eritrea, Daniel is a product of the UCI World Cycling Centre. In 2012, he become the first African rider of colour to complete a Grand Tour in the Vuelta a España. Daniel also formed part of our African Team that raced the Vuelta a Espana in 2014 before taking on the 2015 season, when everything would change.

Daniel would go on to win the Polka Dot jersey at the World Tour Criterium du Dauphine before then claiming the Eritrean national time trial title. The Tour de France was the next objective for Dani and he would get the honour of being the first rider off the TT start ramp, a special moment in his national Eritrean jersey.

History was then well and truly made when Daniel went on to become the first African rider to ever pull on the polka dot jersey at the Tour de France. For 6 days Daniel led the Mountains competition which did wonders for the growth and development of African cycling, a ground breaking moment in the history of the sport for our continent.

With the momentum of 2015 and the motivation sky high, Daniel managed to shine again last summer as he did not only win his home country’s national championships, but successfully defended his King of the Mountains title at the Critérium du Dauphinè.
