Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka’s Merhawi Kudus put up a courageous fight in the final stage of Tour de Suisse. Kudus managed to limit his losses in the 28.6 km individual time trial to keep his 15th position in the general classification.

Without any true specialists against the clock, the main focus for Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka today was for Kudus to keep his Top15 place overall. The predominantly flat course didn’t do the lightweight Eritrean climber any favors but despite the obvious obstacles, Kudus still managed to keep his closest rivals behind him and take home an impressive overall result in the Swiss World Tour race.

Jaco Venter, who spent most of yesterday on the attack, once again proved to be in good condition as he finished as best Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka rider on the stage in 31st place. Rohan Dennis (BMC) took the win, while Simon Spilak (Katusha) defended his yellow jersey to win the race for the second time in three years.

Bingen Fernández – Sports director:
”The guys really tried hard to put their mark on the race and be part of the breakaways every day. Nic [Dougall] got the points jersey early in the race and the others did their best to be part of the good breaks but unfortunately, none of the breaks made it all the way. Knowing this final time trial didn’t suit Merhawi [Kudus], it was really good to see him keeping his Top15 place overall”.
