Tomorrow the Vuelta a Burgos gets underway in Spain and Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka will send a strong climbing group to the UCI 2.HC event.
As an event that our African Team has used in previous year’s as part of our final preparation for the Vuelta a Espana, we look forward to returning to the 5-stage Vuelta a Burgos event once again with a similar purpose in mind. This year the 2 summit finish stages, stage 3 and stage 5, will be targets for our climbing focused roster.
In Igor Anton, Omar Fraile, Merhawi Kudus, Lachlan Morton, Jacques Janse van Rensburg and Ben King we have 6 strong riders for the varying uphill gradients. Our strength in numbers is something we will look to take advantage of in chasing stage wins and should allow us to target a top placing in the overall classification as well.
Joining our team for the Vuelta a Burgos will be our trainee from our continental feeder team, Nicholas Dlamini. Dlamini is a 21-year-old South African who won the King of the Mountains title at the u23 Giro d’Italia this year. Dlamini will ride as a stagiaire on our World Tour for the remainder of the 2017 season.

Vuelta a Burgos is a really nice race and it presents some good opportunities for our team. At Burgos you are able to find a good race rhythm before the Vuelta a Espana because the race attracts some strong riders, so we are really happy to be here again. Last year Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka won a stage and Igor Anton was also up there on GC, this year we hope for much of the same from our climbers. It will be nice to work with Nic Dlamini too, the young South African trainee, I think he will gain some valuable experience this week.
