Our final weekend of European racing has arrived for the 2017 season, with our African Team set to start the final monument of the year, Il Lombardia tomorrow, and on Sunday at Paris-Tours.

Il Lombardia, the final of the 5 monuments in world cycling, will see riders take on a tough 247km from Bergamo to Como. The climbs of Colma di Sarmano, Saviglio and San Fermo Della Battaglia populate the final 50km of the race and are sure to provide for an exciting finale. Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka will be represented by a versatile climbing group that includes Serge Pauwels, Steve Cummings, Jacques Janse van Rensburg, Lachlan Morton, Natnael Berhane, Omar Fraile, Ben King and Mekseb Debesay.

On Sunday at our final European race of the year, the UCI 1.HC Paris-Tours, our sprinters will have one final crack at the top step of the podium. A sprint finale is not quite set in stone with two short kickers in the final 10km but with enough interest from other teams, a mass kick could be likely. Mark Cavendish will be able to rely on Bernie Eisel, Jay Thomson, Johann van Zyl, Jaco Venter, Nic Dougall and our two stagiaires, Nic Dlamini and Amanuel Gebreigzabhier during the 234km classic.

It has been a long season and many might be looking forward to a break but what an honour it is to race a monument of cycling. Lombardia is a beautiful race, beautiful in history, scenery and the challenge it presents to the riders. We are motivated to play our part in this historic race and want to finish our season with a special result, we have such an opportunity tomorrow.
