The next stop on the UCI World Tour is the Abu Dhabi Tour, which gets underway tomorrow and ends after 5 stages, on Sunday 25 February.
Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka will start the Emirati race with a strong squad, ready to compete for stage wins and a high overall placing. The Abu Dhabi Tour will be the final of 3 weeks of racing in the Middle-East for Mark Cavendish, after racing the Dubai Tour and Tour of Oman this month already. The Manxman will be our key asset for the first 3 stages, all likely to end in mass sprints.
Steve Cummings will start his 2018 season at the Abu Dhabi Tour and with stage 4 being a 11km individual time trial, Cummings could very well be in the hunt for a high overall placing going into the final stage. Lachlan Morton could feature on the GC too, as stage 5 will see the familiar summit finish at the top of Jabel Hafeet, a climb the Australian will fancy his chances on.
Mark Renshaw, Jaco Venter, Mekseb Debesay and Scott Davies will complete our African Team in the Emirates.
Roger Hammond – Sport Director
The Abu Dhabi Tour will be a tough challenge, as all World Tour races are. The peloton has a couple of race days in their legs now so everyone is bit faster, all slightly sharper too so executing our plans will be key to a good result. We have a strong squad here for Abu Dhabi which will look to make the most of the opportunities presented to us this week.
