Tejay van Garderen (BMC) won the Amgen Tour of California time trial (34.7km) in San Jose/Morgan Hill and in the process also took the overall race lead with 3 stages to go.
For Dimension Data for Qhubeka Mark Cavendish was first off and eventually posted the 2nd quickest time behind Julien Vermote, who was just over 3 minutes behind the winner.
Our team now is focused on the remaining three stages of the race and potential for success in the opportunities that they offer.
Julien Vermote – Rider
It was a hard TT, a nice course, up and down a bit but you need some power here. The end I found quite tough as it was completely flat. When you’re going up you can go hard and on the downhill you get a bit of a recovery, but at the end you still have to keep pushing.
I kept the pressure on the legs today but they will be good. I feel that I’m getting better day by day and that’s the most important thing.
