Today’s individual time trial was a short and sharp 12,7km route around Venray.
The fastest time of the day was set by Stefan Kung (BMC), who clocked in 14:11, 14 seconds faster than Victor Campenaerts (Lotto Soudal). Campenaerts, who currently holds the European Championships individual time trial title, finished with a time of 14:25. The podium was completed by Soren Kragh Andersen (Sunweb).
For Team Dimension Data, Ryan Gibbons showed good form and was the fastest on course for us, finishing a minute off the winning time. With the only time trial of the race completed, the team will be turning their attention to the upcoming sprint stages.
Nic Dougall- Rider
Today was a short, sharp time trial on a very fast course. It was important to start strong with the back end of the course having more of a tailwind. In saying that I felt that I started a little too hard and paid for it in the second half of the race. While it wasn’t the best day results wise it was very encouraging to see Ryan riding strong and the team are looking forward to the next few sprint stages.
