It was another day for the breakaway, as Alexandre Geniez (AG2R-La Mondiale) took the win ahead of Dylan Van Baarle (Team Sky) and Mark Padun (Bahrain-Merida).
Stage 12 of La Vuelta was a 181,1km stage running from Mondoñedo to Faro de Estaca de Bares. Mañón. The stage included two category three climbs. It was a lumpy course for the peloton to navigate for the day.
A break of eighteen riders made it away very early on into the race and Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier was in the action for Team Dimension Data. The lead for the break was allowed to stretch to over 11 minutes through the day. With 19km to go, a break of eight made it off the front and chasing group, containing Ghebreigzabhier, fell behind. Geniez outsmarted the group to take the win.
Ghebreigzabhier was our highest finisher of the day, placing in 18th spot. Meintjes finished with the reduced peloton.

Today was hard, first in the flat section, I tried three times to make the breakaway. Only on the climb, 10kms into racing, the break made it away. I followed Nibali and a group of about 15 riders. The pace was fast for the big group. After the last 40kms, I was tired. It was good experience and good day for me.
