In a very exciting move, we are delighted to announce that Carlos Barbero has signed as part of our rebrand to Team NTT from 1, January 2020.

The 28-year-old Spaniard will join us after three years at Movistar and brings a huge amount of racing experience to our team, having ridden with some of the best riders in the world.

Barbero has spent all of his professional career at Spanish teams; first riding with Orbea Continental and then Euskadi before stepping up a level to join Caja Rural.

He moved to Movistar in 2017 and made an immediate impression taking stage victories at Comunidad de Madrid, Vuelta a Burgos, Hammer Limburg, Castilla y Leon – all performances that he followed up in 2018 too.

While in 2019 he won the opening stage of the the Tour of Austria as well as delivering strong performances at Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne and Gent-Wevelgem.

Carlos Barbero

I am very happy and excited to be part of the team since I have been in Spanish teams for all my career, so it’s a new challenge for me to be part of a foreign team. This motivates me a lot and I think that my riding style suits the team.

I intend to bring stage wins for the team when I have the opportunity, and also to help my colleagues to achieve victory. The important thing is that the team adds stage wins.

My ambitions are to show consistency during the whole year, and I am very motivated to focus on the classics calendar, but above everything, that the team is happy with my work at the end of the year.

Douglas Ryder, Team Principal

Carlos joining us is really exciting; he’ll not only bring a different set of skills to our team but also bolster what we already have in our current Classics environment.

His experience speaks for itself and his versatility will be of huge benefit. He’s been with Spanish teams his whole career so to have him bring that experience into our group is also going to be of great benefit.
