The 3rd stage of the Ster ZLM Toer saw a repeat victor as Andre Greipel (Lotto-Soudal) made it two in two when he sprinted to the win today. Moreno Hofland (Lotto-Jumbo) placed 2nd while Edward Theuns (Topsport-Vlaanderen) collected the 3rd place prize. Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung made its presence felt during today’s stage with a number of early attacks. Gerald Ciolek was among the initial attackers but the peloton wasn’t letting much go early on. Eventually after 45km of racing, a group of 9 riders jumped clear including our very Kristian Sbaragli. Kristian and his breakaway mates combined to open up a 4’00” lead overRead More →

The 2nd stage of the Ster ZLM Toer saw a select group arrive at the line to contest for the stage honours. Andre Greipel (Lotto-Soudal) would be the winner on the day as he out sprinted Edward Theuns (Topsport Vlaanderen) and Danny van Poppel (Trek Factory Racing) for the stage victory. It would not be the best of days for Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung as none of our riders were able to make it into the 40 rider front group that formed with around 40km to go. This would be the defining move of the stage as these riders would drive the race to theRead More →

The Ster ZLM Toer got underway with a 6.4km evening prologue in Goes today. The victory would go to Robert Kluge (IAM Cycling), he was able to best Martijn Keizer (Lotto-Jumbo) and Victor Campenaerts (Topsport Vlaanderen) to take the top step of the stage podium as well as the race leaders jersey. The short prologue has never really been the strongest discipline for MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung, although Jaco Venter has notched up a few good results against the clock over the last two years. Today would not be Jaco’s day though as he crossed the line 28 seconds down on the stage winner. The fastestRead More →

The Ster ZLM Toer gets underway on Wednesday in Goes, Holland and Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung will be taking part in the Dutch UCI 2.1 race. The event opens with a short prologue followed by 4 road stages, ending on Sunday in Boxtel. The Ster ZLM Toer is your typical Dutch tour, no high mountains but plenty of punchy climbs and more than likely, crosswinds.  Numerous classics riders have found success in years gone past at the ZLM Toer, just like Philippe Gilbert (BMC) who is a 3 time overall winner of the event. A good performance at the short 6.4km prologue will go aRead More →

The completion of the final Criterium du Dauphine stage brought with it a tremendous amount of joy for Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung as Daniel Teklehaimanot would win the King of the Mountians polka dot jersey, our African team’s first ever World Tour leaders jersey.  Starting the day with an unsurpassable lead, Daniel only needed to make sure he reached the finish line in Modane Valfrejus today, to secure the coveted climbers jersey. The stage would work out better than planned for MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung though as Steve Cummings would make the 13 rider break of the day. Steve would go on to be the strongestRead More →

The Rund um Koln would see a 5 rider sprint off to decide the victory with Tom Boonen (Etixx-Quickstep) being the first across the line. Edward Theuns (Topsport Vlaanderen) was 2nd and the 3rd place went to Andreas Schillinger (Bora-Argon). MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung started the race with high hopes and some really positive intentions as they continually animated the opening stages of the race. Adrien Niyonshuti was the first rider from our African team to go on the offensive today as he got into the intial break of the day. Not content to have the break controlled all day by the sprinters teams for aRead More →

Today the Rund um Koln gets underway. The German single day UCI race is an event that Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung has been a part of since our team turned professional in 2013. This year our African team will take to the start with the hope of improving on Gerald Ciolek’s 3rd place last year.  At 196km in length the UCI 1.1 race will take riders through the many undulating hills just outside of Cologne before riders enter the city center for 5 laps of the finishing 6.6km circuit. The circuit finish always lends itself to a big bunch sprint, as was the case lastRead More →

The 7th and queen stage of the Criterium du Dauphine would be a spectacular day for MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung. Louis Meintjes put in a phenomenal ride to claim 3rd place on the stage, only beaten by stage victor Chris Froome (Team Sky) and Tejay van Garderen (BMC Racing). All this excitement only came after Daniel Teklehaimanot all but wrapped up the King of the Mountians competition. Daniel and Louis were part of the large break of the day that had 5 category 1 climbs before them. Daniel took maximum points on the first 3 cat 1 climbs while Louis picked up a few points himselfRead More →

The 6th stage of the Criterium du Dauphine would be an action packed day of racing. Rui Costa (Lampre-Merida) would ride away with all the spoils on the day, edging out Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) and Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) in the end.  With the rain pouring down, the flag dropped to set the riders off. There were countless attacks for at least the first 70km’s. As soon as a group would get away and force out a 20″ lead, they were reeled right back in. Steven Cummings was MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung’s most active rider, as he found himself in numerous early breakaways. Nibali was also veryRead More →
