Gran Piemonte is the penultimate Italian season-ending one day classic, with just Il Lombardia to follow this weekend. Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka will start today’s UCI 1.HC looking for a positive result.

Gran Piemonte will be the final opportunity for riders to stretch their legs ahead of the final monument of the season on Saturday, Il Lombardia. In it’s own right, Gran Piemonte is an exciting race with a tough parcour, particularly the final 40km of the 185km race.

The Banchette climb is 3.6km long at a 6.8% average gradient and it peaks with just 30km to go. After a very short descent the riders will tackle another steep kick up to Nelva before descending to the base of the finishing climb, a 10.6km road that averages 6.6% up to Santuario di Oropa.

The tough climbing final will suit the likes of Louis Meintjes and Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier, and so they will lead our team tomorrow. Completing our lineup will be Enrico Gasparotto, Danilo Wyss, Jaco Venter and Gino Mader.
