Sam Bennett (Bora-Hansgrohe) made it two out of two, by winning today’s stage 2 of the Tour of Turkey. Felix Grossschartner (Bora-Hangrohe) was 2nd and Jhonatan Restrepo (Manzana Postobon) 3rd.

A tough and technical finale made stage 2 of the Tour of Turkey an exciting affair. The short steep ramps in the final 3km meant the GC riders were in with a shot, but the short nature of the climb kept some of the sprinters interested.

Team Dimension Data looked to play two cards, Ryan Gibbons for a sprint and Ben O’Connor if the GC riders made a move. The team did a solid job in delivering our duo to the foot of the final climb.

O’Connor was quick to respond to the early attacks on the climb keeping it together for Gibbons. It was a technical finale, which saw a crash just inside 1km to go put an end to our South African’s chances.

Bora-Hansgrohe played it well in the end, with a late attack by Lukas Postlberger setting up Bennett and Grossschartner to take a 1-2 for the German team.

O’Connor was our first home, in 20th place and 13 seconds down on the winner. Tomorrow should be more of a traditional sprint stage where we will hope to deny the Irishman of a hatrick.
