Matteo Trentin (Mitchelton-Scott) sprinted to the stage 2 victory of the Volta a la Valenciana, coming in ahead of Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis) & Ben Swift (Team Sky).

Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka started today’s 161km stage with the first priority being to retain Edvald Boasson Hagen’s overall race leaders jersey. Our African Team did a fine job of protecting the yellow jersey, delivering the Norwegian to the front of the peloton for the mass sprint finish.

It was a precarious finale but Boasson Hagen safely navigated his way through the traffic circles at 300m to go, and sprinted home in 6th place. A result that was good enough to keep his 5 second lead over Ion Izagirre (Astana), heading into tomorrow’s difficult 191km stage.

A general classification shake-up is expected tomorrow as the route is littered with punchy climbs, including a 5km summit finish, which should be to the liking of our trio, Roman Kreuziger, Enrico Gasparotto and Ben King.
